Since their unholy birth, Gutter Demons have been tearing up the scene across Canada with their intense stage shows, raucous rock n'roll music, red-blooded rockabilly roots, punk potency, and downright dirty musicianship.
Quickly becoming Canada's most recognized disciples of Macabre, they have quickly gained a strong following by playing their unique brand of mutant Psychobilly.
n early 1995 "Howlin’ Hooch" Parkins started a rockabilly band that went on to play the "Z" circuit clubs of rural Canada and were incredibly well received right away!!
Riling up the plowmen and women of tobacco country is no small feat but The Matadors also seemed to hold a power over their audience, forcing them to drink more and more booze until the farmers were unable to tend to their fields. Many crops were lost due to the Matadors in those years. Eventually the band would be boycotted on the rural circuit. The land owners feared, and rightly so, that if the MATADORS were allowed to play in their presence of their workers again, all would be lost.
So the boys headed into London, Ontario to ply their trade in the urban pubs. The crowds in town were untamable and reckless The Matadors were setting bar revenue records every night of the week. Regular reports of mass alcohol poisonings following every performance were becoming a very common thing.
Dozens of Matador-esque bands would pop up and then suddenly dissolve in frustration every day. Yet somehow, it wasn't enough for the boys-- they yearned for something a little more.
One night in 1999 Parkins was approached by what he describes as "a ghoulish figure in a black hood....or something."
The mysterious stranger told Parkins that he was a representative of a group called The Lucifarian Brotherhood of Baphomet, and that The Matadors had caught the attention of the brotherhood. This "ghoul" came to propose a deal to the band. If the Matadors would write and perform Lucifarian gospel music, mixing it in with his traditional rockabilly set, he would, in exchange, receive super-human ability on his instruments as well as complete omnipotence over any audience.
This sounded like a fair deal to Parkins.. He agreed that the deal was in his favour and set about to cement the deal. Instantly the audiences were in a frenzy, drinking inhuman amounts with complete disregard for tomorrow. Once the band began with the new Lucifarian music, onlookers could not help but spend their entire paychecks in a single evening of lewd wanton depravity.
As time went on, Hooch became more and more powerful as he added more Lucifarian music to The Matadors repertoire. Eventually the performances became so intense that some members of the band became afraid of the power and evil that followed them to every show. These cowardly members were allowed out of their contracts with the brotherhood and went on to record their own solo records which ultimately sucked giant donkey cocks. I'm serious...total garbage. It's sad really.
The Matadors now travel all over the world spreading the "infernal word" to the masses and harvesting souls for Lucifer. They will be in your town next. When you come to see The Matadors (and you will), come prepared to drink more alcohol than you've ever drank in your life. Also, bring a change of pants because in the excitement of the show, you WILL shit the pants that you wore to the show.
The Matadors are currently touring in support of their new album:
SAY YOU LOVE SATAN. Hear it here:
Bloodshot Bill started playing in his hometown of Montreal, around 1998, with just a guitar and a stomp board. Since then, he has had over 30 releases throughout Europe, the USA and Canada - all places he has toured over the years. He was banned from entering the States for 5 years (2006-2011) and made his first "comeback" show in America at the Norton Records 25th Anniversary Weekend, performing alongside such legendary acts as Andre Williams, The Sonics & The South Bay Surfers. His hair is slicked with his own brand of grease, "Nice 'n' Greasy", and plays his guitar through his custom made Richtone Amp. He's been in lotsa bands you've never heard of (Hubcaps, Guilloteens, Bootlegs). Won FME's Coup De Coeur prize in 2007. Released records with Mark "BBQ" Sultan as The Ding- Dongs. Has been in several films & documentaries. Collaborates with King Khan as Tandoori Knights. Has been the spokesmen for a hamburger, The Degeue ("disgusting burger" translated). Usually travels alone as a one man band.
